Affinity Bridge was hired to migrate thesimonsfoundation.ca to Drupal 8, along with a light redesign. I implemented the new site’s frontend as a custom theme. I enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about Drupal 8, and to take a leading role building the frontend for an active website with a deep library of content.

The new theme provides a similar structure and appearance to the old Drupal 7 theme, but with richer detail and more refined typography, made possible with newer web technologies. Many elements which used fixed-width images in the previous iteration – such as navigation buttons and the background image – were changed to standard HTML, CSS, and SVG, along with a small amount of server-side processing to add some context-appropriate line breaks.

The new theme includes many carefully designed features which change to accommodate the viewer. I was particularly pleased with how the site’s various slideshows and featured content blocks turned out, with images and titles that look beautiful in several different configurations.
